Bleu Cendre (2009)
Bleu cendre is Vincent Gagnon’s first album as leader.
To back him in this project, he had called pillars of Quebec’s jazz scene: Guillaume Bouchard (bass), François Côté, Alain Boies (saxophone) and Michel Côté (saxophone). Strong musicians known for their inventiveness, this ensemble brings life to the original repertoire of Gagnon, Boies and Bouchard.
At the crossroads of acoustic jazz and impressionistic music, Vincent Gagnon’s music presents melodies at once harmonious and twisted, leaving enough space for the improvisation that gives the quintet its reputation.
The group won the Radio-Canada Galaxie Rising Star Award at the Montreal Jazz Festival (2009) and the Prix Résidence – Ville de Québec award at La Bourse RIDEAU 2010. Bleu Cendre has also been finalist at Gala des Prix Opus for the Jazz Record of the Year – 2009/2010 award.
